Soo classism: that time on tumblr when I was told I didn’t have right to try and empathize, to try and understand, to try and put myself in someone elses shoes because because I don’t have a tragic backstory, because I’m the ‘norm’, white, straight, dense, and unable to ‘get’ you?

Please tell me I interpreted this wrong, because yes there are people out there who still hold a mountain of holier than thou knowledge humans do have the damn capability to put themselves in someone elses shoes and it should be encouraged.  You can always expect to get ahead in sharing the hurt by planting a knife in the same place.

Again, I’m going to assume I misinterpreted, and I’ll admit if i did.  It’s just… it’s something I see too often as of late. But I do also look forward to learning from people who have been there.  Yes I may not be able to understand someone else at first.  But that doesn’t mean we can’t do so with time.

the post is about people who take the reigns of the movements that they have nothing to do with
for example white people trying to police how people of color feel about racism 
it is ok for people to learn and want to help and to help but it is NOT okay for people to say “ok i understand you now” when they really never can fully understand because they dont have to deal with it 
people can help the situation but unless you are part of the oppressed group you should not try to order around how people in said oppressed group feel or how these people should go about solving things

classism is discrimination due to your class in society as in people oppressing poorer people 
classism is being made fun of growing up because you couldnt afford school lunch so you had to get special free programs
classism is people assuming you cant have financial difficulties if you have a car or a wii because of course poor people ONLY care about food and thats it poor people dont want to feel happy they only need to eat right?
classism is rich people assuming they know whats best for poor people when they have no idea what its like to struggle through that shit

I was not referring to classism as being told on tumblr.  I was referring to the possibility I was being told I can’t have insight merely for being a white male.

But thank you for rephrasing.  I’d rather come right out and make my queries so someone can explain them to me, than silently carry them with me until I consider them facts, like many others oft do.  It’s better to admit to ignorance than assume wisdom.
